प्रिय मित्रों जय श्रीकृष्णा, राधे राधे।


      पुराने ज़माने की एक घटना है, किसी गाँव में एक बूढ़ा आदमी रहता था। उसकी शादी को 20 साल हो गए थे पर वह औलाद की दौलत से महरूम था। भगवान की कृपा से बूढ़े की औरत का पाँव भारी था। नई-नई चीज़ें खाने को उसका जी चाहता था। बूढ़ा भी अपनी बिसात के मुताबिक़ उसे खाने की चीज़ें ला कर देता था।

         एक रोज़ बूढ़े की बीवी को खट्टे-मीठे बेर खाने की बहुत ख़्वाहिश हुई। गरमी के मौसम में बेर कहाँ मिलते हैं। फिर भी बूढ़ा बेरों की तलाश में जंगलों में भटकता रहा। एक दिन जंगलों में इधर-उधर बेर तलाश करते हुए वह एक तालाब के किनारे पहुँचा तो एक बेर की झाड़ी नज़र आई। बूढ़े को बहुत खुशी हुई। वह अपने दोनों हाथों से बेर इकट्ठे करने लगा।

          अभी झोली भर बेर ही तोड़े थे कि एक आदमख़ोर मगरमच्छ ने अपना बड़ा सा मुँह पानी से ऊपर निकाला और ज़ोर से साँस खींची। उसके साँस लेने से एक ज़ोरदार आँधी चली और बूढ़ा कमज़ोरी की वजह से अपने को न संभाल पाया और तालाब में आ गिरा।
     
       ..  बूढ़ा अपने को संभालते हुए किनारे तक पहुँचना ही चाहता था कि मगरमच्छ ने इसके पाँव ही पकड़ लिए। बूढ़ा उससे कहने लगा,‘‘भाई खट्टे-मीठे बेरों की तलाश में मेरे पाँव घिस गए और फिर जब बेर मिले तो मेरे रास्ते में तू रोड़ा बनता है।’’

         ‘‘तेरी यह मक्कारी मुझपर कोई असर नहीं करेगी। बहुत दिनों से इंसान का गोश्त खाने को नहीं मिला। तेरी करारी ह़ड्डियों को चबाने में मुझे बहुत मज़ा आएगा। आज मैं तुझे खाऊँगा।’’ मगरमच्छ ने लार टपकाते हुए कहा।

‘‘क्यों। मुझे तू क्यों खाएगा’’

‘‘इसलिए क्योंकि तूने मुझसे बगैर इजाज़त लिए मेरे बेर लिए हैं।’’

       ‘‘भाई मैं यह बेर बहुत मजबूरी में ले रहा हूँ। मेरी बीवी की हालत कुछ ऐसी है। मैं और मेरी बीवी अब और ज़्यादा इंतज़ार नहीं कर सकते।’’ बूढ़े की बात सुनकर मगरमच्छ समझ गया।

         ‘‘ओह’’ अगर यह बात है तो मैं तुझे नहीं खाऊँगा। तू अपनी राह ले लेकिन मेरी एक शर्त है। ‘‘क्या शर्त’’ है। बूढे़ ने पूछा।
‘‘अगर लड़का होगा तो तेरा और लड़की हुई तो मेरी।’’

          ‘‘मंजूर’’ कहकर वह बेरों की झोली संभालते हुए चल दिया। वह अपने दिल में सोचने लगा कि मगरमच्छ उसे फिर कहाँ मिलेगा और अगर उसके यहाँ लड़का पैदा हुआ तो फिर तो परेशानी की कोई बात ही नहीं।

         बूढ़ा अपनी बीवी की आव भगत में कोई कमी नहीं करता था। दिन पर लगा कर उड़ते रहे और एक दिन बूढ़े के घर एक खूबसूरत और बहुत तंदरूस्त लड़की पैदा हुई। बच्ची को देखकर उसे मगरमच्छ की बात याद आई तो वह काँप उठा। लड़की का रंग गुलाब के फूल की तरह था। उसकी आँखे हीरों की तरह चमकदार थीं। वह परियों की तरह हसीन और मासूम थी। ऐसी मन्नतों और मुरादों की लड़की मगरमच्छ के पेट में जाए यह सोचकर बूढ़ा दुख से काँपने लगा। उसने सोचा कि अब वह कभी तालाब के किनारे नहीं जाएगा।

         बारिश का मौसम आया और नदी में बाढ़ आ गई। मगरमच्छ पानी में बह कर तालाब से निकल कर खेत में आ गया। अब उसे आसानी से शिकार मिलने लगा। एक दिन बूढ़ा खेत से सब्ज़ी तोड़कर ला रहा था तो रास्ते में मगरमच्छ ने उसे रोककर सवाल किया।

        ‘‘क्यों बे बुडढ़े! मुझसे छुपता क्यों है? तू मुझसे छुप कर कहाँ भागेगा। सीधी तरह बता तेरे यहाँ लड़की हुई या लड़का।’’

       ‘‘लड़की हुई है।’’ बूढ़े ने सहमी हुई आवाज़ में कहा।

         ‘‘तो फिर वह मेरी है। मेरी अमानत को अब तक तूने अपने पास क्यों रखा है। क्या तू अमानत में ख़्यानत करना चाहता है।’’

         ‘‘इतनी छोटी बच्ची को तुझे कैसे दे दूँ?’’ बूढ़े ने कहा।

           ‘‘चौदह साल पहले तूने मुझसे वादा किया था। क्या वह अब भी बच्ची है। तू बाप की नज़र से देखता है वह अगर बूढ़ी भी हो जाएगी तब भी वह बच्ची ही रहेगी। तू मुझे अब और बेवकूफ़ नहीं बना सकता। मैं तुझे चैन से रहने नहीं दूंगा। देख! अगर तूने लड़की को कल ही लाकर मुझे नहीं दिया तो मैं तुम तीनों को एक-एक कर ख़्तम कर दूँगा।’’ मगरमच्छ ने कहा।

          ‘‘वह मेरी बेटी है। अपना खून तुझे मैं कैसे दे दूँ? लोग क्या कहेंगे?’’ बूढ़े ने सवाल किया।

           ‘‘लोग क्या कहेंगे वह मैं नहीं जानता। तू क्या कहता है? वादा ख़िलाफ़ी करना चाहता है?’’ मगरमच्छ ने गुस्से से चिल्लाकर कहा।

           ‘‘नहीं नहीं! यह बात नहीं है। मै चाहता हूँ कि मेरी बेटी को इस बात का पता न चले। और।।।’’ बूढ़ा कहते-कहते रुक गया। ‘‘तू क्या चाहता है बोल।’’ मगरमच्छ ने कहा।

         ‘‘मेरी लड़की को कमल का फूल बहुत पसंद है। तू अपनी पीठ पर एक कमल का फूल रखकर तालाब के अंदर पानी के नीचे बैठे रहना। जब लड़की खुशी से इसे लेने जाएगी तो इसे तू ले जाना।’’ मगरमच्छ को यह तरकीब पसंद आई।

           दूसरे दिन जब बूढ़े ने अपनी बीवी को बताया तो लड़की की माँ परेशान हो गई। वह अपने आपको कोस रही थी कि क्यों उसने बेर खाने की ख़्वाहिश की। आज उसकी बेटी मौत के मुँह में जा रही थी। भगवान उसे मौत क्यों नहीं देता। उसका दिल रो रहा था लेकिन वह लड़की से कह रही थी, ‘‘बेटी! कितने दिन हुए नानी के घर तू नहीं गई। वह तुझे याद कर रही है। तू आज अपने बाप के साथ नानी के घर जाएगी। दो दिन रहकर वापस आ जाना।’’

        ननिहाल जाने की बात सुनकर बेटी को खुशी हुई। उसके लिए मामू का घर जन्नत से कुछ कम नहीं था। वहाँ की हर चीज़ उसे पसंद थी। वहाँ का चाँद खूबसूरत था। वहाँ के फूल खूबसूरत और फल रसीले थे। नानी के घर जाने की ख़बर सुनकर वह खुशी से नए कपड़े पहन कर तैयार हो गई थी। बूढ़ा उसे लेकर जंगल और नाले पार करता हुआ उस तालाब के किनारे पहुँचा और बेटी को तालाब के किनारे बैठा कर बोला, ‘‘बेटी तू यहाँ बैठी रह। मैं अभी आया।’’ बूढ़ा चला गया लेकिन वापस नहीं आया।

           उधर बेटी को एक बेहद खूबसूरत कमल का फूल नज़र आया। वह सोचने लगी कि इतना खूबसूरत कमल तालाब के बिल्कुल किनारे खिला है लेकिन उसे अभी तक किसी ने हाथ नहीं लगाया! हो सकता है किसी की नज़र उस पर न पड़ी हो। बूढे की बेटी धीरे से पानी के अंदर गई। कमल के फूल की तरफ हाथ बढ़ाते ही कमल थोड़ा आगे खिसक गया। लड़की डर कर अपने बाप को पुकारने लगी।

वह फिर आगे बढ़ने लगी। कमल फिर से खिसक गया। लड़की चीख़ कर अपने बाप को पुकारने लगी।

         बाप वहाँ होता तो जवाब देता। उसे डर लग रहा था वह सोच रही थी कि वापस चली जाए। उसी वक़्त बड़ी-बड़ी लाल आँखों वाला मगरमच्छ मुँह खोले पानी की सतह पर दिखाई दिया। बूढ़े की बेटी मगरमच्छ को सामने देखकर घबरा गई और चीख़ने लगी लेकिन उसकी चीख़ जंगल में गूंज कर रह गई पर उसका बाप वापस नहीं आया। मगरमच्छ उसको अपने बड़े-बड़े पंजों में पकड़ कर तालाब के दूसरे किनारे एक गुफा के अंदर ले गया और वहाँ लड़की को छोड़कर वापस आ गया।

         लड़की की मासूमियत और खूबसूरती को देखकर उसे खाने का इरादा इस वक़्त उसने छोड़ दिया। राहगीर जो तालाब में नहाने या पानी पीने आते थे, उन्हें वह पेट भरकर खाता और उस आदमी के पास खाने का जो सामान होता उसे लाकर इस लड़की को देता। लड़की इस गुफा में पड़ी रहती। पर मगरमच्छ के डर से वह कुछ बोलती नहीं थी।

             इस तरह दिन गुज़रते गए। चारों तरफ इस तालाब का मगरमच्छ आदमखोर के नाम से मशहूर हो गया था। डर के मारे कोई राहगीर इस तालाब की तरफ़ नहीं आता था। मगरमच्छ भूख से बेक़रार होने लगा। उसने तालाब की बड़ी-बड़ी मच्छलियों को खाकर ख़त्म कर दिया। अब वह भूख के मारे मरने लगा। जंगल की गाय-बकरी भेड़ भी वह भूख की शिद्दत में खा गया। अब उसके डर से वहाँ कोई जानवर भी पानी पीने नहीं आता था। जब उसे ज़ोर की भूख सताने लगी तो वह बूढ़े की बेटी के क़रीब आकर उसे अपनी लाल और ललचाई आँखों से घूरने लगा। बूढ़े की बेटी समझ गई कि अब उसकी बारी थी। लेकिन मगरमच्छ ने उसे उस दिन नहीं खाया। सोचने लगा कि अब उसके दाँतों में धार नहीं थी। उन्हें लुहार से तेज़ कराने के बाद उस लड़की को खाएगा। यह सोचकर वह लुहार के पास चला गया।

             इधर बूढ़े की बेटी अपनी जान बचाने की तरकीब सोचने लगी। गुफा में जितने सोने-चाँदी के ज़ेवरात मगरमच्छ ने लाकर रखे थे। उसने सबको इकट्ठा किया और एक टोकरी में रखकर सूखे पत्ते और छोटी-छोटी लकड़ियों से उसे ढँक लिया और अपने जिस्म पर कीचड़ लेप कर अपनी सूरत एक अंधी बुढ़िया जैसी बना ली और टोकरी कमर पर लादकर लाठी टेकते-टेकते जाने लगी। जैसे ही गुफा से बाहर निकली उसी वक़्त मगरमच्छ आ गया और दहाड़ कर पूछने लगा।।।‘‘तू कौन है?’’ बूढ़े की बेटी डर से काँपने लगी लेकिन बाद में ख़ुद को संभालते हुए कहने लगी।।।

         ‘‘मेरे बदन में क्या है जो तू खाएगा? तू अपनी गुफा को जा। वहाँ तेरे लिए एक तंदरूस्त लड़की मौजूद है। उसकी हड्डियाँ चबाने में तुझे मज़ा आएगा।’’

          मगरमच्छ उसे पहचान न सका उसके मुँह में इंसानी गोश्त के मज़े को सोचकर पानी आ गया और वह तेज़ी से गुफा के अंदर चला गया। बूढ़े की बेटी उससे छुटका मिलते ही घबरा कर दौड़ने लगी और घने जंगल में गुम हो गई।

            वह सोच रही थी कि जिस माँ-बाप ने उसे धोखा देकर मगरमच्छ के हवाले कर दिया। वह उनके पास नहीं जाएगी। वह यही कुछ सोचते हुए घने जंगल में चली जा रही थी कि उसे शेर की गरज सुनाई दी। उसका दिल ज़ोर-ज़ोर से धड़कने लगा। वह ख़ौफ़ के मारे इधर-उधर छुपने की जगह ढूंढने लगी। इतनी देर में एक हाथी के बराबर ऊँचा और बड़ा शेर उसके सामने आ गया। डर के मारे वह सामने एक बड़े बरगद के दरख़त के तने से चिपट गई और रो-रो कर मजबूरन दरख़्त से दरख्वास्त करने लगी।।।‘‘ऐ दरख़्त तू फट जा मैं तुझमें समा जाऊँ और तू बंद हो जा।’’ यह सुनते ही दरख़्त सचमुच फट गया और वह उसके अंदर चली गई और दरख़्त बंद हो गया।

         एक दिन एक राजकुमार शिकार करने के लिए उसी जंगल में आया। वह दातुन के लिए एक शाख़ काटने लगा कि उसके कानों में ये आवाज़ आई।।।

मेरी नाक काट न जाए
मेरा हाथ टूट न जाए

           यह सुरीली आवाज़ सनकर राजकुमार को हैरत हुई। और वह दातुन लिए बग़ैर राजमहल वापिस चला आया। वह रात भर उसी जादुई दरख़्त के बारे में सोचता रहा। राजमहल में राजकुमार की शादी की तैयारियाँ हो रही थीं। ज्योतिषी और पुरोहित राजकुमार को समझा रहे थे लेकिन राजकुमार की बस एक ही ज़िद थी कि वह उसी दरख़्त से शादी करेगा। अगर उसकी शादी उस दरख़्त से नहीं हुई तो वह अपनी जान दे देगा। राजकुमार राजा की इकलौती औलाद था। उसकी नज़र में शादी की अहमियत बेटे की ज़िंदगी से कम ही थी। इसलिए राजकुमार की ख़्वाहिश पूरी की गई। उसी दरख़्त के साथ उसकी शादी की रस्म अदा की गई।

          राजकुमार ने उस दरख़्त को वहाँ से उखाड़कर अपने महल के पास बाग़ में लगवा लिया। बूढ़े की बेटी रात गए दरख़्त से निकलती और महल के अंदर जाकर सब काम पूरे करती और सुबह होते ही वापस दरख़्त के अंदर चली जाती। एक रोज़ राजकुमार ने छुपकर बूढ़े की बेटी के ये सब काम देखे। दूसरे दिन जब बूढ़े की बेटी दरख़्त से निकल कर महल के अंदर गई तो राजकुमार ने उस दरख़्त को आग लगाकर भस्म कर दिया।

          बूढ़े की बेटी दौड़ती हुई आई और बोली,‘‘आह। तुमने यह क्या किया?’’

           इस पर राजकुमार ने कहा, ‘‘इतना बड़ा महल है तुम इसमें रह सकती हो। इस खूबसूरत बाग़ में घूम सकती हो। बेवजह इस दरख़्त के अंधेरे में क्यों सड़ती रहती हो। और फिर मैं तुमसे बेइंतेहा मोहब्बत करता हूँ मैंने तुम्हें अपनी रानी बना लिया है। मैं तुम्हारे बिना जी न सकूंगा।!’’

         लड़की तो सिर्फ़ मोहब्बत की भूखी थी। लड़की को लगा कि जैसे सारे जहाँ की खुशी उसे मिल गई हो। उस दिन के बाद दोनों राजमहल में हँसी खुशी रहने लगे।

       There is an old-fashioned incident, an old man lived in a village.  He had been married for 20 years, but he was bereft of the wealth of children.  By the grace of God, the old woman's leg was heavy.  He wanted to eat new things.  The old man also used to bring him food according to his chessboard.



          One day the wife of old loved to eat sour and sweet plum.  Where do you find plum during the summer season?  Still, the old man wandered in the jungle in search of bears.  One day while searching for berries here and there in the jungles, he reached the banks of a pond and saw a plum bush.  The old man was very happy.  He began to gather plum with both his hands.

           Just a handful of plums were broken when a man-eating crocodile raised its big mouth above water and drew a loud breath.  His breathing caused a strong storm and the old man could not handle himself due to weakness and fell into the pond.

   

        ..The old man wanted to reach the shore while handling himself, that the crocodile caught its feet.  The old man said to him, "Brother, in search of sour and sweet beers, my feet are worn out, and then when you get a berry, you are in my way."



          "Your cravings will not affect me.  Human meat was not eaten for many days.  I will enjoy chewing your bitter bones.  Today I will eat you. "The crocodile said dripping saliva.

 "Why.  Why you will eat me "



 "Because you have taken my plum without permission from me."



        "Brother, I am taking this plum in very compulsion."  My wife's condition is like this.  Me and my wife can't wait any longer. "Hearing the old man, the crocodile understood.



          "Oh" if this is the case, I will not eat you.  You take your path but I have a condition.  What is the "condition".  The old man asked.

 "If you have a boy, you have a girl, if you have a girl."



           Saying "approved", he walked away with the handle of the bears.  He started thinking in his heart that where will the crocodile get him again, and if a boy is born to him, then there is nothing to worry about.



          The old man did not decrease his wife's hospitality.  They kept flying day by day and one day a beautiful and very healthy girl was born to the old man.  Seeing the girl, when she remembered the crocodile, she trembled.  The girl's color was like a rose.  His eyes were bright like diamonds.  She was beautiful and innocent like fairies.  The old man trembled with sorrow thinking that the girl of such vows and wishes would go to the crocodile's stomach.  He thought that now he would never go to the bank of the pond.



          The rainy season came and the river was flooded.  The crocodile flowed into the water and came out of the pond and came to the field.  Now he started hunting easily.  One day the old man was taking vegetables from the field and then on the way the crocodile stopped him and questioned.



         "Why the hell!"  Why do you hide from me?  Where will you hide from me?  Tell me like a girl or boy.



        "The girl is there." The old man said in a teary voice.



          "Then she is mine."  Why have you kept my bond with you till now?  Do you want to take care of yourself? ”



          "How do I give you such a little girl?" Said the old man.



            "Fourteen years ago you promised me.  Is she still a child  You see from the father's point of view, even if she gets old she will still be a child.  You can't fool me anymore  I will not let you rest in peace.  See!  If you did not give me the girl yesterday and then I will finish the three of you one by one. ”The crocodile said.



           "She is my daughter."  How do I give my blood to you?  What will people say? "The old man questioned.



            "I don't know what people will say."  What do you say?  Who wants to take the promise? "The crocodile shouted angrily.



            ''No no!  this is not the matter.  I want my daughter not to know this.  And ... "The old man stopped saying.  "What do you want?" The crocodile said.



          "My girl loves lotus flowers.  You keep a lotus flower on your back and sit under water inside the pond.  When the girl happily takes it, you take it. "The crocodile liked the idea.



            The other day, when the old man told his wife, the girl's mother got upset.  She was cursing herself as to why she wanted to eat plum.  Today his daughter was going to face death.  Why does God not give him death?  Her heart was crying but she was telling the girl, "Daughter!  How many days have you gone to the grandmother's house?  She is missing you  You will go to your grandmother's house today with your father.  Stay back for two days. "



         The daughter was happy to hear that Nanihal had gone.  For him, Mamu's house was nothing less than Jannat.  He liked everything there.  The moon there was beautiful.  The flowers there were beautiful and fruit juicy.  She was happily dressed in new clothes after hearing the news of Nani going home.  The old man took him across the forest and drain and reached the banks of that pond and told the daughter sitting on the bank of the pond, "Daughter, you sit here.  I just came. "The old man went away but did not return.



            On the other hand, the daughter saw a very beautiful lotus flower.  She started thinking that such a beautiful lotus is feeding right on the banks of the pond, but no one has touched it yet!  It may not be anyone's eye.  The old daughter went slowly under water.  As soon as he extended his hand towards the lotus flower, the lotus slipped forward.  The girl started calling her father fearfully.

          Had the father been there, he would have responded.  She was afraid she was thinking to go back.  At the same time, a crocodile with big red eyes appeared on the surface of the opened water.  Seeing the crocodile in front of the old daughter got nervous and started screaming but her scream was echoing in the forest but her father did not return.  The crocodile caught him in his big claws and took him inside a cave on the other side of the pond and returned there leaving the girl there.



          Seeing the innocence and beauty of the girl, she gave up her intention to eat it.  Passengers who used to come to the pond to bathe or drink water, they used to eat it in their stomach and would bring this food to the man and bring it to this girl.  The girl lived in this cave.  But she did not speak for fear of crocodiles.



              Days passed like this.  The crocodile of this pond became famous as man-eater.  Due to fear, no passerby used to come towards this pond.  The crocodile started becoming hungry.  He finished eating the big fish of the pond.  Now he started starving.  Even the sheep and goats of the forest ate it in the face of hunger.  Now no animal could even drink water due to his fear.  When he started to get very hungry, he came close to the old daughter and stared at her with his red and tempted eyes.  The old's daughter understood that it was her turn.  But the crocodile did not eat it that day.  He started thinking that there was no edge in his teeth.  They will eat the girl after making them fast with a seduction.  Thinking this, he went to the blacksmith.



              Here the old daughter started thinking of saving her life.  All the gold and silver jewelery was kept by the crocodile in the cave.  He gathered everyone and put them in a basket and covered it with dried leaves and small sticks and by applying mud on his body, he made his appearance like a blind old lady and loaded the basket on the waist and started walking.  As soon as the crocodile came out of the cave, the crocodile came and roared and asked ... "Who are you?" The old daughter's daughter trembled with fear but later started to take care of herself.

          "What is in my body that you will eat?"  You go to your cave.  There is a healthy girl there for you.  You will enjoy chewing his bones. "



           The crocodile could not recognize him, thinking of the fun of the human meat in his mouth, and the water quickly went inside the cave.  As soon as the old daughter got rid of her, she started running in fear and got lost in the dense forest.



             She was thinking that the parent who betrayed her and handed them over to the crocodile.  She will not go to them.  She was going into the dense forest thinking that she heard the thunder of a lion.  His heart started beating hard.  She began to find a place to hide in fear.  In such a time, a lion, tall and big as an elephant, came in front of him.  Out of fear, she clung to the trunk of a big banyan in front of her and began to cry and cry desperately to plead with the request ...           One day a prince came to the same forest to hunt.  He started cutting a branch for Datun that this voice came in his ears.



 Prince cut off somewhere

 Do not tear my eye

 Do not bite my nose

 Don't break my hand



            This melodious voice surprised the prince.  And he went back to the palace without taking Datun.  He kept thinking about the same magical procession throughout the night.  Rajkumar's wedding preparations were being done in the palace.  The astrologer and the priest were explaining to the prince but the prince had only one stubbornness that he would marry the same court.  If he is not married to that court then he will die.  The prince was the only child of the king.  According to him, the importance of marriage was less than the life of the son.  So the prince's wish was fulfilled.  Her marriage ceremony was performed with the same court.



           The prince uprooted the court and got it planted in the garden near his palace.  The daughter of the old woman went out of the court at night and went inside the palace and completed all the work and went back inside the court as soon as dawn.  One day the prince hid all the work of the daughter of the old man.  The next day, when the daughter of the old came out of the court and went inside the palace, the prince set the procession on fire.



           The old daughter came running and said, "Ah.  What did you do? "



            The prince said, "You can live in such a big palace."  You can roam in this beautiful garden.  Why do you unnecessarily rot in the darkness of this court?  And then I love you without any fear, I have made you my queen.  I will not be able to live without you! "



          The girl was just hungry for love.  The girl felt as if she had got all the happiness.  After that day both of them started laughing happily in the palace.
